Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Tory Lowe, a community activist in the African-American community announced that the American Red Cross Southeast Wisconsin Chapter (ARCSWC) has released data information about a Client Assistance Card (CAC) with funds totaling $545.00 that was given to Latressa Turner on Dember 28, 2017 after she sought help from the Red Cross. Turner and her sister Latoya Lewis sought the help of Lowe by telling him that the ARCSWC had denied aid after Turner's place of residence was destroyed by a three alarm fire.
Lowe requested for the ARCSWC to release information concerning Turner, after the Red Cross reported that it had provided Turner with several hundred dollars of aid. Lowe had notified the ARCSWC that the Turner family was filing a lawsuit.
Lowe stated in his Facebook account, "I gave the Red Cross 24 Hours to produce a copy of the signature sheet that Ms Turner Signed off on. We were provided a image from a computer screen by the Red Cross...The community has come together to assist the Turner family under the thought that the family had not been assisted. 1,500 dollars was raised and items were donated from the people in our community." Lowe says, that a GoFundme account that raised $1,500 for the Turner family has been put on hold and donations from that people that donated will be refunded. The unfortunate incident with the Turner family will not hinder his work to continue to provide help for people that seek some type of assistance when in need, according to Lowe.
Turner later recanted her false claim and admitted that the Red Cross had actually helped her with a CAC worth $545. She has apologized to Lowe for lying to him. Turner suffers from a mental disability. Lowe says that he will continue to help people in need, but will do a further work to determine that people don't take him for ride again.
