Alt-right Funded LIBRE Attempts To Root In Milwaukee's Latino Community

The LIBRE Initiative by Americans for Prosperity Foundation is funded and connected to the Koch brothers, which is considered an alt-right organization attempting to plant their seed in the Milwaukee Southside Latino community.

April 25, 2017

Milwaukee, WI - On Monday, some Latinos in the Milwaukee area were invited to a "Community Leaders Freedom Dinner" by Aldira Aldape, the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (APF) Outreach Director in Milwaukee. The dinner event at the Italian Community Center was co-sponsored by APF, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates the LIBRE Initiative and the other sponsor was Bridge To WellBeing, according to the invite. The LIBRE Initiative by APF provided information to those attending, APF wants to provide tools for the Latino community to prosper and built economic empowerment and identifies itself as a non-partisan and non-profit grassroots organization. But, what APF doesn't want Latinos to know is that it is actually funded by the alt-right Koch brothers who oppose immigration reform amd advocate to repeal ACA (Obamacare).
In 2015, State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milw) released a statement about LIBRE, "The LIBRE Initiative is an ultra-conservative organization funded by out of state billionaires Charles and David Koch that seeks to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, halt increases in the federal minimum wage, fund anti-immigrant Republican politicians, and support voter photo ID laws that aim to further disenfranchise Latino communities.
"As the representative of the largest Latino community in the great state of Wisconsin, I have been dedicated to growing the civic engagement of Latino Wisconsinites in my district and beyond. I am committed to making sure my constituents are made aware that the primary goal of this right-wing organization is to get them to vote against their best interests by voting for Republican candidates who have consistently blocked my efforts to pass pro-Latino, pro-immigrant bills like drivers cards for undocumented immigrants (AB 343) and even symbolic efforts like a bill that would honor national civil rights leader, Cesar Chavez (AB 437)."
It seems that LIBRE is not welcome in the Latino community for its alt-right connection to the Koch brothers and their agenda to continue to disenfranchised the Hispanic community it wants to infiltrate to create division among Latinos similar to what Governor Scott Walker (R) told a major campaign supporter about divide and conquer when unions were actually targeted before ACT 10 was passed to eliminate contract bargaining for state employees.

(Hispanic News Network U.S.A.)

Wisconsin Latino Businesses Faced Nearly $1.3M In Estimated Loss During "Día Sin Latinos" In February

In February, more than 165 Milwaukee and statewide Latino business owners decided to close during a Day without Latinos, Immigrants and Refugees, which resulted in more than $1.3M in business loss just in one day.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

April 21, 2017

Milwaukee, WI - Voces de la Frontera (VDLF) has confirmed that some businesses including El Rey Products, which generates more than $59M in grocery and product sales decided to close again for the May 1st Immigrant march to allow its employees to participate in the march. The local El Cabrito Restaurant is another business that has confirmed that it will close as well, according to the VDLF Facebook page account. VDLF hasn't released a current list of Latino businesses that will be closing so far, but the list is growing as it did in February.
In February, more than 165 Latino businesses in the Milwaukee and statewide area decided to close and lost more than $1.3M in revenue just in one day. Some Latino businesses who did not close due to keeping their business afloat were facing a boycott by the very community they served.
Many Latino business owners voluntarily close and take a huge loss of business for one day to support the VDLF movement to promote change in immigration reform and other issues affecting the Latino undocumented immigrant community. While other Latino businesses are not left with an option, but to close or face a boycott by the community supporting VDLF, according to some business owners.
It seems that in the last 11 years, Latino businesses have lost more than $14.5M in estimated revenue during the one Day without Latinos, which doesn't effect the very economic base that supports and finance political GOP state and federal legislators that are re-elected or elected with the agenda to oppress the Latino population in Wisconsin today.
VDLF has even created a business owner committee called "Negocios en La Lucha" and the business owners in the committee have decided once again to close their businesses this time around. By closing their business for one day actually effects them more in business loss than those they are trying to fight against, which is the big corporations, manufacturers and shopping stores like Walmart, Menard's, Pepsi, Coors products and the list goes on that actually support the GOP (extreme Republican legislators) today and Trump.
Some might argue that the Latino businesses who decide to close for the one Day without Immigrants actually take a hit in business loss while the businesses that continue to support the GOP welcome Latinos to spend their money at their stores so, it can be use to support those legislators working to oppress the very same Latino consumer.
Latino businesses should remain open for business to generate economic empowerment to reinvest back into the community to oppose and support the fight against any attempt to oppress the Latino community growth, which Latinos and Latino businesses are also major tax contributors and consumers in the state of Wisconsin.
Latinos have not yet grasp the idea that they have an economic empowerment and if they can learn how to manage their economic spending power, immigration reform will eventually take place. Latinos need to spend their hard eatned dollars at Latino businesses and businesses that support and welcomes them and shouldn't spend their money at places thay they are not welcome or do support the GOP and Trump.
VDLF will once again lead a community march from S. 5th St. and W. Washington St. to the Milwaukee County Courthouse on Monday, May 1st starting at noon.
VDLF has not openly advocated for Latino community based organizations and non-profits to close as Latino businesses.

Editors note:

Hispanic News Network U.S.A. has learned that the following Latino Community Based Organizations and non-profit groups will not close on May 1st in support of the Voces de la Frontera immigrant march and none have send out a notice that they will close to allow their employees to march with immigrants.

Why most Latino community base organizations will probably not close on May 1st to support the Voces de la Frontera Immigrant and refugee march?

Could it be that most of these organizations have Republican affiliations preventing them from participation.

Tony Baez, Larry Miller And Paula Phillips Elected To Milwaukee Public School Board

Milwaukee Southside voters elected Dr. Tony Baez to the Milwaukee School Board in the 6th District making him the first Hispanic man to become a Board member.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

April 5, 2017

Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, Dr. Tony Baez was elected to the Milwaukee School Board and thanked his campaign staff including Carmen Cabrera, Sylvia Ortiz Velez, Luz Sosa, Virginio Miranda, Oscar Brenes, Milwaukee County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic, Pablo Baez, Maria Olaiz de Jenkins, Ernesto Ramirez, Adrian Chan, Justin Bielinski, Ivelis Perez, Cesar Cerna, Brandon Savage, Kyle Kummers and others who worked tirelessly to get Baez elected. The Baez campaign celebrated their success at Los Tres Hermanos Restaurant in Milwaukee's Southside.
Baez released the following statement, "The Wisconsin Working Families Party saw that a District Six victory could be key to creating a pro-public school majority on the school board as well as having a dedicated voice for Latino students. They recruited me to run, supporting me throughout the election progress. I’m proud to work with Working Families because we share a vision and a drive to support and deliver a quality education to all of the students in our diverse city,” said Dr. Tony Baez, the newly elected District Six member of the board. “Thanks to Working Families’ campaign support and community organizing, we’ve turned the tide in Milwaukee against privatization and charter schools."
Citizen Action of Wisconsin released a statement on their Facebook page that cooperative organizing members from the Acción de Ciudadana de Wisconsin (ACW) "volunteered over the last 6 weekends to help elect our member Tony Baez to the Milwaukee School Board." Luz Sosa is the community organizer for ACW.
Sosa says that the successful campaign to elect Baez to the MPS Board is attributed to volunteers and members of ACW to knock at more than 5,000 doors, made more than 1,000 calls to registered voters and had 250 shifts of volunteers during the campaign in the Milwaukee Southside Latino community MPS Board district 6.
Dr. Baez became the first Hispanic man to get elected as a Board member in District 6. Baez in the 1970's was one of the original designers who created the bilingual program in the Milwaukee Public Schools. In those days, Texas migrant workers sons and daughters including Mexican nationals and Puerto Ricans who arrived in Milwaukee and registered in MPS were looked upon students with a disability simply because they only spoke Spanish and were assigned to special education classes. The bilingual program managed to teach both Spanish and English to help students succeed in MPS.
Dr. Baez's 40-year experience in education and being one of the foremost bilingual program creators for MPS showed that his credentials as a former Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Provost at the Milwaukee Area Technical College and a progressive social consultant on education will make a difference at MPS.
Other elected MPS Board members are Larry Miller (Dist. 5) who was re-elected, Paula Phillips (Dist. 7) and Annie Woodward (Dist. 4).
In other elections, Tony Evers running for Superintendent of Public Instruction easily won re-election for a third term.
Kashoua "Kristy" Yang was elected to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court Branch 47 and Valarie Hill was re-elected to the Milwaukee Municipal Judge Branch 1. Yang became the first Hmong-American woman to be elected as Circuit Court judge in the State of Wisconsin and the second nationally.
The proposed Wheel Tax referendum in Milwaukee County to increase the vehicle registration for vehicles by $60 failed to passed.

Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Latinos and public elected officials celebrated the 90th Birthday of the late United Farm Workers Union leader César E. Chavez at the Milwaukee City Hall rotunda and at the Super Mercado El Rey at the 900 block of S. César E. Chavez Drive. A life-size bronze statue of Chavez was unveiled last year and this year, a name plaque will be placed by the statue.
A reception was hosted by Ernesto and Olivia Villarreal, the owners of the popular El Rey.
The Chavez statue at the El Rey property in Milwaukee's Southside is the eight location in the nation to have a life-size statue of the late UFW leader.
