San Antonio, Texas - On Tuesday, Jonny Ramírez, a local San Antonio Tejano radio personality with Univision's 107.5 FM radio announced that his more than 22-year long career with the station has come to an end and "the party is over." Ramírez will no longer share a morning spot at 107.5 FM beginning Wednesday, which have shocked fans and has dropped radio ratings for Univision's radio chain that both Ramírez and Univision's working relationship has abruptly ended. Two other DJ's, Xavier Anthony Castro and Paul G from KBBT 98.5 FM, a Hip-Hop and R&B station were also removed from the air.
Ramírez didn't say much about his separation from KXTN 107.5 FM, but said that he was devastated. One thing for sure, local and Internet fans will surely miss Ramírez in the morning around San Antonio.
Jonny Ramírez tweeted, "@Univision today @eljonne @Xaviersworld  @biggie_paul were let go today you have ONE less viewer. I'm  sure one don't matter keep your  $$$"
Another DJ at KXTN, Jammin J Javi tweeted, "Lost for words my dawg. Working under the same roof for 19 yrs.Still in shock. You are definitely Tejano N Proud"
Tejano, Hip-Hop and R&B radio fans have posted on Facebook that they will be boycotting Univision radio and speculated that Univision is gradually changing its format to Mexican regional music like it did in Houston. Tejanos in Houston staged multiple protests during the Summer at the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 20-day event in March for not adding Tejano music at the main stage.
Univision radio executives could not be reached for comment.
