New York - Last week, Eduardo LaGuerre, a LULAC member and his attorney filed a third amended complaint in the U.S. District Court of Southern District of New York against termed-out LULAC President Margaret Moran and LULAC National legal advisor, Manuel Escobar claiming the misappropriation of $100,000 in funds, illegally cancelling the 85th LULAC National Convention elections in New York City last Summer and illegally maintaining decision making positions in contrary of National LULAC Bylaws and its Constitution. LaGuerre who is the LULAC New York State Director filed for a jury trial on November 25 in the latest national corruption scandal that has embarrassed the entire League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) membership and it's national officers.
LaGuerre is seeking $75,000 in punitive damages, attorney fees, costs and other monitory compensation for the lawsuit. He claims that termed-out LULAC President Margaret Moran and her cronies engaged in "misappropriating earmarked LULAC funds for their own purposes, including, but not limited to, paying for their attorney fees in various legal actions against them and availing themselves of LULAC insurance coverage to pay for attorney fees without LULAC National Board of Directors approval as required...defendants illegally converted Plaintiffs property to their own use with no benefit to 1,625 LULAC delegates...defendants failed to act in good faith and instead engaged in bad faith, favoritism, cronyism and illegal economic coercion."
Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) has attempted various times to contact termed-out LULAC President Moran, Brent Wilkes, the National LULAC executive director and Escobar about LaGuerre's complaint and other allegations raised of misappropriation of LULAC funds, including the sale of multiple LULAC properties without the approval of the National LULAC Board and not informing its membership of the sale of properties, which a current lawsuit is in effect in a Corpus Christi, Texas court. Also in another lawsuit, the City of Corpus Christi is suing LULAC to get back $400,000 that it gave the non-profit organization to built a low income housing project that it never did under former LULAC National President Rosa Rosales. Moran, Escobar, former National LULAC President Rosa Rosales and Wilkes have not responded to HNNUSA's inquiry.
