Waukesha, WI - On Friday, Payton Isabella Leutner, 12, also known by friends as "Bella" was released from the Waukesha Memorial Hospital and is recovering at her home. Leutner's identity was made available in Facebook postings commenting about the horrific stabbing incident on May 31, near Davids Park in Waukesha. Leutner was stabbed 19 times including in her vital organs and survived. Many middle school students know her as Bella.
A Go Fund Me account for Leutner has raised more than $36,051 of the $250,000 that had been requested as donations for her medical expenses. Two 12-year-old suspects in connection with Leutner's stabbing have been charged.
Both suspects had an interest in a website, which is a collection of small stories about death and horror. Slenderman, a fictitious character might have motivated one of the suspects to kill her best friend.
On Monday, both Morgan Geyser, 12, and Anissa Weier, 12, were charged in Waukesha County with one felony count for first-degree attempted homicide and party to a crime for stabbing Leutner.
Leutner was lured to a park and then to a wooded area on Saturday where Geyser stabbed her 19 times in the legs, arms and torso as Weier held her down, according to the criminal complaint. Geyser also confessed that Weier had stabbed Leutner as well.
Leutner was left to die in the wooded area, but she managed to crawl herself out of the woods at Rivera Drive and Big Ben Road near a bicycle trail by Davids Park. A bicyclist found Leutner and called Waukesha police to report the horrific crime.
The suspects after stabbing Leutner went to a Wal-Mart like nothing had happened. They were taken into custody by a Waukesha County Sheriff's deputy as they walked in a nearby road.
Weier's father told police that he was missing a kitchen knife. The knife was recovered by police.
Both Geyser and Weier were charged as adults on Monday and are facing up to 65-years in prison each, if convicted. Each of the suspects received a cash bond of $500,000 and remain in a juvenile detention facility in West Bend.
The criminal complaint states, that the suspects had planned to kill Leutner for several months and might have been motivated by the fictitious character called "Slenderman."
Leutner considered Geyser as her best friend. They all attend Horning Middle School.
