Former Miss Venezuela 2004 Killed In Attempted Roadside Armed Robbery

Venezuela police are investigating the murder of former Miss Venezuela 2004, her ex-husband and injuries sustained by their 5-year-old child.

Caracas, Venezuela - Authorities in Venezuela have launched an investigation into Monday's shooting death of Monica Spear Mootz, 29, of Miami, her ex-husband, Henry Tomas Berry, 39, and injuries sustained by their 5-year-old daughter, Maya in a remote highway between Valencia and Puerto Cabello.
Venezuela police say, that an attempted armed robbery went wrong when the victim's leased gray Toyota Corolla became disable around 10:00 p.m. on Monday and were parked along the highway. Several suspects tried to rob the couple.
Spear Mootz had appeared in Venezuelan and Telemundo soap operas.
Venezuela reported at least 25,000 homicides in 2013.
On Tuesday, José Gregorio Sierralta, the Commissioner of Detectives in Venezuela during a press conference says, the couple's vehicle had been disabled by debris placed on the road to block passage. Several tow trucks were helping the victims and one had already lifted the vehicle into its platform when they were attacked by several gunmen who began to fire at the vehicle while the victims were inside.
Five suspects in their teens, several who are 18-years-old have been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Spear Mootz and Berry, Sierralta announced.
