Former Pop Star 2009 Latin American Idol Charged With Heroin Smuggling

Heredía facing 20 years in prison for attempting to smuggle 1.3 kilos of heroin into the U.S.

Santiago, Santo Domingo - Dominican authorities charged Martha Heredía, 22, aka, "La Baby" with drug trafficking for attempting to smuggle 1.3 kilos (2.9 pounds) of heroin from Santo Domingo to the U.S. Last Wednesday night, Heredía was busted at the Cibao International Airport before broading a Jet Blue flight to New York when airport security detected drugs inside her shoe heels that she was wearing and three other pair of shoes she had in her luggage. 
She was taken into custody by the Dominican Republic National Drug Control Agency after an x-ray scan detected a substance believed to be heroin. Luisa Liranzo, a prosecutor confirmed, that Heredía is facing up to 20 years in prison, if convicted for trafficking heroin. 
Heredía is originally from Santiago de los Caballeros and a former 2009 Latin American Idol winner. She resided in New York.
