Town of Nasewaupee, Wisconsin - Brian M. Cooper, 35, of Plainfield, Illinois was taken into custody in Door County after admitting of strangling his girlfriend, Alisha N. Bromfield, 21, also from Illinois on early Sunday. Bromfield was 21-months pregnant, according to the criminal complaint. Both Cooper and Bromfield, as friends had gone to Door County to attend his sister's wedding over the weekend at the Log Den in Egg Harbor.
Cooper confessed to Door County Sheriff's investigators that he had hoped to reconcile with Bromfield who was pregnant from another man. She apparently rejected to reconcile with Cooper.
Cooper said that they argued during the reception and had been drinking. He left the reception and went back to the resort where they were both staying.
He then fatally strangled her while she slept around 3:00 a.m. at a Sand Bay Beach Resort room in the town of Nasewaupee, which they shared. Cooper admitted of killing Bromfield and then had sex with her body, according to the criminal complaint.
On Sunday afternoon, Cooper woke up and realized what he had done to Bromfield and called the Door County Sheriff's Department to report the murder.
Cooper appeared in court on Tuesday for a bail hearing. Door County Circuit Court Judge D. Todd Ehlers found there was enough evidence to hold Cooper and set bail for $1 million. He is facing two counts of first-degree intentional homicide charges, including Bromfield's unborn daughter death, and a third-degree sexual assault charge for having sex with Bromfield's corpse.
