Jefferson, WI - On Wednesday, James T. Richardson, 51, was sentenced to life in prison without parole and five years for hiding a corpse for the July 14 homicide of Beau Butschke, 28. Sentences to run consecutively. Richardson smiled during sentencing. He was convicted after pleading guilty in October for first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.
The criminal complaint stated, Butschke had been shot several times in the back and head with a .22 Caliber rifle as a result of a mowing lawn incident. Butschke apparently wasn't mowing part of the lawn in an apartment complex where Richardson lived next door too. Richardson got upset about it and then killed Butschke. Richardson had been evicted from the building before killing Butschke.
Butschke was killed by a river bank where Richardson and a friend James H. Richards, 19, were target practicing with a rifle. Butschke's body was then taken to a vacant storage space in Ixonia.
Twelve days later, another man renting a space nearby smelled a foul odor and called police. Police discovered Butschke's body.
Both Richardson and Richards were charged with homicide, theft and hiding a corpse, according to the complaint. Richards has pleaded not guilty and is expected to go on trial later this month.
