31-year-old Man Arested In Sexual Assault Of A UWM Student

The sexual assault suspect used a different name to get a real estate license in Wisconsin

Milwaukee -Joel Hoffmann, 31, was arrested last Friday at the Suburban Motel on S. 27th St. by police in connection with the February 26, sexual assault of a 21-year-old student in the 3000 block of N. Maryland Ave. near the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus. The female student told police that after 2:00 a.m., she heard a knock on her door thinking it was her roommate and opened the door. When she opened the door, Hoffmann forced his way inside, and displayed a knife. He threaten the student with the knife, and then sexually assaulted her.
Hoffmann remains in custody on a $50,000 cash bail, and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case, and is expected to file charges on Tuesday against Hoffmann.
Authorities say, Hoffmann used a different name, aka "Joel Lynch" to acquire a real estate agent license in 2008. He worked out of the South side Metro Shorewest Realty at the 1000 block of W. National Ave. Hoffmann since his arrest, has been removed as an employee of Shorewest's Realty, according to Shorewest management.
He was convicted on Dec. 7, 1990 for 3rd-degree sexual assault and is a registered sex offender until Oct. 18, 2018, according to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.
